Alba de Tormes

November 2, 2023

Another quiet day in Alba de Tormes. This morning we visited the Church of the Annunciation - part of the Madres Carmelitas Descalzas Convent complex - with St Teresa's tomb above the altar.

The rest of the day was spent doing some basic food shopping and having an explore of the town - although it's not a town as in New Zealand as there isn't a main street with shops. Here the shops are dotted among other buildings in many different streets. A pharmacy in one street, a bookshop in another etc.

It's been a cold day and when we were out walking this afternoon we got caught in a sudden downpour.

The Church of Annunciation

Tha entrance of the Madres Carmelitas Descalzas Convent - part of the same building as the church. St Teresa founded the Convent in 1571.
The main altar in the church.

St Teresa's tomb above the altar.

Random photos from the rest of the day:

We poked our noses into this bookshop. It would have been great if only we could read Spanish.

Of course we had to pop into a pasteleria.

Candied St Teresa almonds are a specialty of this area.

We were enjoying our walk along the Rio Tormes until we got caught in the sudden downpour.

It was a good walk until the rain sent us racing for cover.

  1. What an interesting little town and a bakery to match any city.

    1. It was an interesting small town to stsy in. It had two bakeries, on opposite corners, and both were fantastic - both had queues out the doors and up the streets at times.

  2. It was good to catch up on your travels today as we have been on the road (in car) for 3 days. You have made even more precious memories. Bernie didn't bring the connecting cord for the camera to the laptop so can't share until we go home on Tuesday. We have spent 2 nights in Kulin where everyone is busy bringing in the wheat harvest and baling their hay. some of our highlights were the Tin Horse Highway (photos will explain eventually) and Wave Rock. Today we learned a little more about Donald Campbell & his jet powered boat " Bluebird" breaking the Water speed record in 1964 on Lake Dumbleyung. Now in Albany for 4 nights. Very cool down here while very warm in Perth.

    1. Enjoy your time away from home. I'll have to look up the places you have mentioned to see where your travels have taken you..Stay warm in Albany. Winter has hit Spain and we're feeling the coolness. We loved our Caminos Teresianos - it was very special to both of us. It was wonderful to learn more about St Teresa and to see her land, to see the countryside she lived and travelled and carried out her mission in.
